In 1910, Clara Zetkin, a well-known communist and reformer, made a proposal to establish a Day of Solidarity for Women around the World. The main idea of the holiday was to uphold the rights of female workers. The first two years, the holiday was celebrated on different days of March, and starting from 1914, women from several countries rallied at once in the struggle for their rights on one day - March 8. Now the holiday has lost its original political coloring and turned into a flower day of honoring beautiful ladies.
