Oktoberfest is the world's most famous beer festival, celebrated annually in Munich. The idea of creating a holiday belongs not to the king, not to the minister or any other high-ranking person. The tradition of Oktoberfest was laid by a simple non-commissioned officer of the Bavarian National Guard, proposing to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Teresa of Saxe-Hildburghausen in an unusual way. The first Oktoberfest was a grand horse race organized in honor of the newlyweds. Now about six million people from all over the world gather for Oktoberfest in Munich. The festival became so popular that it began to be celebrated not only in Germany, but also in other countries.
